PRESS RELEASE
KPL clubs support new FIFA initiatives
At
the KPL meeting on Saturday the clubs welcomed and strongly supported the new
FIFA initiatives on improving good governance, financial transparency and
stakeholder accountability in KFF.
In the FIFA letter to the KFF Chairman on April 22nd, FIFA expressed serious
concerns about KFF management and media statements and emphasized that recent
FIFA missions to Kenya "have proven that immediate improvements in the
management style and durable changes of negative habits are more than ever
highly needed".
FIFA officially copied the letter to Sports Minister Ochillo Ayacko, CAF General
Secretary Mustapha Fahmy, South African PSL Chairman and SAFA Vice Chairman Dr.
Irvin Khoza, KPL Managing Director Jack Oguda and FIFA Development Officers in
Africa.
The KPL clubs share and fully endorse the key FIFA concerns and policies:
- on the unilateral KFF changes in the agreed recruitment process for the KFF
Secretary General;
- on the unacceptably high KFF administrative costs and allowances;
- on the failure of KFF to consult and involve clubs in decision-making;
- on KFF attempts to change the pre-season agreement on relegation and
promotion;
- on the failure of KFF to apply the KFF and FIFA rules firmly and fairly; and
- on the preparations for the FIFA organized seminar on May 2-4th with and for
the 24 KPL clubs and the top officials of the South African Premier Soccer
League (PSL).
Attached is the full text of the statement adopted by the majority of top
Premier League clubs.
