PRESS RELEASE
KPL Restart Football Hall of Fame July 5 - Those who dedicated a major part of their lives to serving and improving Kenyan football on and off the field have not received the recognition they deserve. So the KPL has now restarted the Football Hall of Fame initially launched by KPFG in early 2004. At the KPL meeting on Saturday, 18 top clubs renewed their commitment to building a new future for Kenyan football through greater professionalism and partnerships among our clubs, coaches, players and referees. But the past is our prologue. As youth and now as adults, we have all been inspired by the examples of our many talented football players and heroes who selflessly served our clubs, our sport and our country. They brought us honour and respect and it is now our turn to honour them. On Saturday the KPL clubs decided to restart the “Football Hall of Fame” to recognize their many achievements and also to inform and inspire our youth and future generations. The KPL will proceed with three main steps: 1. To reconfirm the initial Football Roll of Honour issued in February 2004; 2. To include in a new KPL website a special section on historic highlights in Kenyan football with photos and profiles of the Roll of Honour members and their achievements; 3. To secure government and corporate support for building a Football Hall of Fame where fans and students can learn about our football history and especially about the talented players who created the magical moments we should never forget. The KPL clubs decided to start by recognizing those who are happily still with us and agreed on the following ‘starting eleven’ for the initial Roll of Honour (in alphabetical order): Mohamed Abbas This "starting eleven" will all be invited as special guests of honour at the Premier League Championship finals on July 16th at City Stadium. Among other benefits they will also receive free passes to all Premier League matches before the new season starts.
