It is no coincidence then that most fans have tuned out of the local premier league and are more interested in European leagues. Institutional teams such as Tusker and Oserian simply cannot draw fan support however succesful they become because there is simply no sentimental attachment.
Several fans all over the country and abroad have expressed
a willingness to support their beloved teams financially by contributing
monthly, if only the club officials can show some level of organization.
If club officials can produce audited monthly accounts showing how the club uses the money and if they come up with a game plan showing how the club plans to use the money both in the long term and in the short term, fans would be more than willing to contribute their own hard earned money.
Unfortunately the past and present officials of such clubs have chosen to turn a deaf ear to such suggestions, while pursuing the pipe dream of Corporate sponsorship which can never happen given the current economic climate in the country. The result has been the gradual decline of such clubs to the level of possible relegation to lower divisions. One is left to wonder what the motivation of such club officials is. Maybe they would like for such clubs to be in a position of dependence for their own political gain. Indeed many become officials in order to pursue their own selfish interests.
Kenyan football is yet to see a forward thinking, visionary club official either at the club level or athe Federation level who can lead Kenyan football to greater heights.
